For those of my readers who don't know much about the AT, it spans from Springer Mountain, Georgia, to Mount Katahdin, Maine. The entire length of the AT is almost 2200 miles. To thru-hike the AT means that you hiked from end to end. It typically can take a hiker, depending on fitness level, 3 to 7 months to thru-hike the AT. The Appalachian Mountain Conservancy recognizes thru-hikers, operating on the honor system.
